COMMUNITY HERO-THE GREAT SPORTS FESTIVAL
Mr.Dinesh Gajendran Catalyst and Founder of Audacious Dreams Foundation received “Community Heroes” Awards in The Great British Sports Festival and Abhinav Bindra Foundation’s Local Sporting Heroes Awards held at The British Deputy High Commission Chennai reception dinner Hosted by Mike Nithavrianakis, Deputy High Commissioner including the gathering of Olympians, International and National sports stars. As part of the GREAT British Sports Festival in India, the British Deputy High Commission Chennai with partners Abhinav Bindra Foundation and Slum Soccer to organised a 3-day soccer tournament in Chennai from 14-16 march 2012. Slum Soccer functions with the ultimate aim of reaching out to the Indian homeless using football as a tool for social improvement and empowerment. Steve McMahon a familiar face to those who follow ESPN Star Sports and even more familiar to those who follow Liverpool was also present. Mr.Dinesh Gajendran has influenced and nurtured his passion for sport in life and supported the rural people to achieve their best in their chosen sport. Whilst many awards felicitate sporting talent, it is the award as the coach who was a real local sporting hero awarded as he have dedicated his life to nurturing participation in sport in his local communities.
The award was a rare and meaningful opportunity to acknowledge individuals as he has made a significant and continued contribution to sport within his community. Award recognise the everyday heroes of sport in India, the individuals who would not normally receive praise for the hard work they do. The awards identify and celebrate his contribution in a significant way to fostering participation in sport.
AWARD CATEGORIES:
The awards will honour long-standing local volunteers and sports facilitators whohave made significant contributions to fostering participation in sport, of any kind.Possible Categories:
- Youth Hero (under 25yo) – An award which recognises a young personwho has contributed in a significant way to a particular sport or physicalactivity.
- Sports Leaders – Individuals who have made a significant commitment andcontribution to nurturing sport on a individual, group or community level.
- Contribution to Disabled Athletes – A category that recognises a person’scontribution to sports for disabled individuals.
- Contribution to Gender Equality in Sports – For efforts expended inattempting to eliminate gender barriers in sport and promoting women insport.
- Veteran Hero – Older individuals who have contributed to sport their wholelife.
- Contribution by an NGO to sports participation – For an NGO who iscommitted to facilitating sports in schools or communities.
- Community Heroes – Contribution to sports participation for disadvantagedor disenfranchised communities.
AWARD ELIGIBILITY:
As an individual from the local community Mr.Dinesh Gajendran makes a voluntary contribution to sport through developing the rural area people by Audacious Academy for Sports and Social Development(AASSD) nominated for the Local Sporting Hero Awards and was awarded with the title “Community Hero”.
