INDIA SRILANKA PEACE & CULTURAL YOUTH EXCHANGE
A student Cultural Team of Sri Lanka-United Nations Friendship Organisation (SUNFO) was participated in “India-Sri Lanka Peace & Cultural Youth Exchange 2011” in Gudiyattam, Vellore District Tamilnadu from 20-23 August, 2011.
As a part of this programme a wonderful packed hall event was organized in a very short notice by the able youth leader Mr.Dinesh Gajendran, Peter Cruddas Regional Intern – Asia Pacific Region with The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Association, Founder/Executive Director of The Audacious Academy for Sports and Social Development (AASSD) with Rotary Club of Gudiyattam.
The cultural team performed the traditional dance of Srilanks. More than 100 school students were participated in that event. The youths were empowered to work towards peace and reconciliation to achieve Sustainable Development Goals which created a positive step towards ensuring the future prosperity between the nations.
The exchange program worked need as one to eliminate our racist and separatist tendencies and committed to ensure the development of both the countries.
This programme was facilitated by SUNFO Global Youth Coordinator Mr.H. Mahesh Nishshanka SFSUNFO. The cultural team was led by the SUNFO Associate Member and Team Leader Mr.Kelum Kumarathunga. Cultural items were performed by Members of SUNFO Youth Congress and SUNFO Children Congress namely Chamal Hansika, Kavindi Asanka,Pramodika ishari,Tharindu Lakmal, Madu Madhavi Malka,Salitha Suranjan, Nimasha Madhushanthi and Milan Deemantha advised by Dancing TeacherMs.P.Senevirathne
.The India Srilanka Youth Exchange programme Benifits:
- Through this event the culture, arts, traditions and best practices among youth was shared between India and Sri Lanka.
- The mutual understanding and peace building through mutual collaboration was strengthened.
- The youth related issues and to learn different strategies used by the government to overcome the problems was discussed.
- Youth from diverse background for the international youth activities was exposed. An opportunity to take part in India Sri Lanka Youth Dialogue was created.
- Different places with cultural and historical values of india were visited by the participants.
- The youths were engaged with community activities while providing a space to promote volunteerism.
- The youths contributed and supported towards global understanding on the sustainable development.
